"A picture is worth a thousand words"
And yet the one above still manages to fall short of the gravity of the eternal agony of damnation.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”This verse speaks of love and hope for humanity, but it also reveals the reason for the dire need of love and hope for humanity.
The verse implies that whoever does not believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, will perish and have eternal death.
The implication is true.
The reality horrifying. This horrifying reality, this “living” eternal death is infamously known as Hell.
Take a closer look at our topic, but by all means avoid it being your destiny.
Hell: The result of God’s judgment on an unrepentive, unbelieving heart.
Daniel 7:9-10
“As I looked, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.”Revelation 20:11-15
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”Jude 1:14-16
“Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: ‘See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.’ These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.”Hebrews 10:26-27
“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”2 Thessalonians 1:8-9
“He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.”
DO YOU QUALIFY FOR HELL?
2 Thessalonians 2:10
“and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”
If you refuse to love the truth you qualify for hell. Jesus is the Truth(John 14:6)
Wickedness is deceitful.
That lust, that greed, that pride, that temporary pleasure, it's deceiving you; like the Pied Piper with his merry tune, it's luring you to destruction.
Jude 1:6-7
“And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.”
"The safest road to Hell is the gradual one - the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without sign posts." C.S. Lewis
- Matthew 13:40-42
“As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” - Jesus says this of Hell: Mark 9:48
“where ‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’” - Psalm 11:6-7
“On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.”
To be a resident of Hell: is to be "utterly alone, in the darkness without a single comfort or consolation, nothing good, without hope for all eternity."
- Kaylene R
- Matthew 10:28
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” - Isaiah 14:9-11
“The realm of the dead below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you—all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones—all those who were kings over the nations. They will all respond, they will say to you, ‘You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us.’ All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you.” - 2 Peter 3:7
“By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.” - Revelation 14:10-11
“they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” - Matthew 25:41, 46
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’”
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
WHO DESERVES SUCH A SEVERE JUDGMENT?
You. I. Everyone.
If you don't agree with this being a justified condemnation, you are not aware of the height of the purity of God, nor the depth of your own depravity.
We are in the realm of humans.
God is in the realm of God.
What would make us think that we are even capable of earning a spot in His Presence?
"Morality may keep you out of jail, but it takes the blood of Jesus to keep you out of hell."
- Charles Spurgeon
- Matthew 16:24-26
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?’”
